The Mark is an east coast band of four out of Philadelphia. Hook laden originals featuring crafty lyrics mix with backgrounds steeped in classic rock, blues, jazz and funk to propel their music to a unique blend of sound guaranteed to get the audiences moving their feet.
The nucleus of the band was formed back in 1989 when singer-songwriter Tom Appleton was introduced to lead guitarist Mark Capozio. Several band names, tours and rhythm sections later, in early 2003 the Mark was born featuring Tim Komonchak on bass and vocals and Jeff Walter on drums and vocals.
The Mark is a fresh approach to the roots-rock sound. The have been compared to "a funky Gov’t Mule”, as well as “Phish and Lynyrd Skynyrd, beaten over the head and dragged out into the street by amazing vocals.”
Singer/Acoustic Guitar Player Tom Appleton was recently chosen by the Ibanez guitar company to endorse their guitars in a national ad campaign which launched in the summer of 2006 in several magazines including Harp, Relix, Performing Songwriter, and even received prime placement in the inside cover of Acoustic Guitar World several months in a row. The ad was also featured in the program distributed at the Bonnaroo Festival in June.
Jammedonline had this to say about 'Plain as Day' after it's release "One of the brightest strengths of this new release is their ability to swing in different styles and still sound like themselves...The beautiful guitars go all over the place, sounding like tie-dyed rain drops flying to the ground."Dance of the Dwarves" closes out the album and has some of the most far out guitar he plays, making you put the album on repeat. "Plain as Day" deserves a listen, and another. Luckily, it appears to be an album that gets better with multiple listens"
