The legendary New York based jam band, The Zen Tricksters, celebrates its 30th anniversary on Sunday, October 25th with a rare show at B.B. King Blues Club in New York (237 W. 42 St. 212 997-4144), NY beginning at 7:30 PM. Founder and lead guitarist Jeff Mattson will be joined by veteran Zen Tricksters Klyph Black (bass), Tom Circosta (guitar), and Dave Diamond (drums). The band is currently on hiatus while Mattson pursues his project with Donna Jean Godchaux (Grateful Dead), The Donna Jean Godchaux Band, and Klyph Black tours with his blues band, Rumor Has It. Mattson recalls their early days when the band was called The Volunteers and played five+ nights a week in Long Island clubs. 17356
The band began touring nationally in 1989 and has played in nearly every state in the Union, as well as Canada and Japan. Former Zen Tricksters players of note include Rob Barraco who played with band mate Mattson with Phil Lesh in 1999, went on to play with The Dead, and wh...

What is BoomBox? Some would claim they’re an enthralling, sweaty heap of down tempo disco-hop. Others may say they're a special blend of Funktronic ‘n Blues. They prefer to just call it Rock ‘n Roll and leave the rest up to the listener.
Comprised of multi-talented producer/musicians Zion "Rock" Godchaux and Russ Randolph, the BoomBox project manifested in 2004 during a recording session. Instantly clicking, the two realized they together harnessed both the talent and drive to introduce a new, unequaled sound to the live music scene.17356
In an era of iterative button pushing, beat repeat and laptop DJs, repetitious sets and inability to consistently perform for an audience have unfortunately rendered some musicians/artists hopelessly obsolete. BoomBox counters this, solidifying their musical presence by keeping on their toes through live performances, feeding on the crow...
Steve Kimock is an innovator. Not just for his ability to successfully navigate live performances spanning the Summer of Love through the advent of MTV and well into the new electronic-pop revolution. And not just for his gift for leading the live music recording and download revolution with a meticulous dedication to archive and share his live shows for more then twenty years (Macworld, 2005). He is not just an innovator because of his craftsmanship restoring vintage analog equipment and for a completely custom and organic sound (he designed a highly collected edition of Two Rock brand "Kimock Amplifiers" and most recently a custom, ergonomic Scott Walker guitar, in stereo). 17356
It’s no surprise that the band Railroad Earth took their name from Jack Kerouac’s flowing prose-poem, October in the Railroad Earth. Interspersed with memories of the past and the present, the story weaves a complex tapestry of impressions and reflections, all underlining the American history of the workingman. Much like Kerouac, Railroad Earth’s music captures the grit and soul of rural and urban America and translates it into something deeper than just music. 17356
The six-piece ensemble crafts each song artfully, like a storyline in a novel about travel, wonderment, tragedy, and heartbreak. With the unusually soulful and deep writing and vocal delivery of principal songwriter, Todd Sheaffer, combined with instrumentation so colorful you might find them on the Appalachian Trail, Railroad Earth is bringing their slice of American culture on a hefty fall/winter tour spanning both coasts and every major market in between.
As John Kadlecik tours the east coast with Bob Weir and Phil Lesh in Furthur, Jeff Matson, founder of the Zen Tricksters and guitarist for the Donna Jean Godchauz Band, has stepped up to take his place for the Dark Star Orchestra dates he will miss. 17356
Toni Brown, former owner/publisher of Relix Magazine for more than 20 years, has just released her new book, Relix: The Book, published by BackBeat Books, a division of Hal Leonard Books.
Relix: The Book covers the "greatest hits" of the first twenty seven years of the magazine (1974-2001), and chronicles the evolution of the Deadhead/Taper community from its first days as a relative "street rag". The book has 256 pages of color, and includes interviews with major personalities including Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Jorma Kaukonen, and Robert Hunter. Relix: The Book includes all the cover art of the magazine during this period, photos, art, and articles as diverse as concert taping to Deadheads in jail.17356
Toni Brown is currently on national tour to sign her new book, and to support her new CD, State of Mind. State of Mind is Toni's fourth musical project and was produced at Paul Harlyn Studios in Celebration,...

September 2, 2009 (Boulder, CO) - Leftover Salmon celebrates its 20th anniversary of music and will ring in the New Year with a pair of shows at the Boulder Theater on December 30 & 31. On New Year's Eve 1989 the band was born when members of Left Hand String Band, Drew Emmitt and Glenn Keefe, joined Vince Herman and members of Herman's band, The Salmon Heads, for a gig at Crested Butte's club the Eldo.
The name Leftover Salmon was created while on the drive from Boulder to Crested Butte that day and the gig that night created the band that's swimming on to ring in 20 years this New Year's Eve. The morphing of these two bands formed a group with a trademark sound that came to be known worldwide as 'Poly-ethnic Cajun Slamgrass'. That sound propelled the group from its humble
Formed by members of 90's San Francisco Hip-Hop/Jazz pioneers, Alphabet Soup; Les Claypool's (Primus/Sausage); and Bob Weir's RatDog, the Band of Brotherz explore/remix songs of the Grateful Dead through hip-hop. The band has officially solidified after the release of this album and is playing live dates, currently touring in the California.
The band's self description is classic and well descriptive of their vibe: "The music is best described as revolutionary urban music, threatening a higher level of social consciousness with an infectious danceable groove, seamlessly blending hip hop, live instruments, samples, politics, alien technology, reggae, revolution, bong hits, freedom, poetry, justice, tofu products, and world peace..."17356

The world of popular music lost one of its greatest innovators when Lester William Polsfuss, better known as Les Paul, died earlier today at the age of ninety-four from complications related to pneumonia.
It is difficult to quantify just how much we, as music lovers, owe to Les Paul. He is generally credited with inventing multi-track recording in the nineteen forties, as well as many of its essential components and improvements, including overdubbing and delay effects. Many of his processes are still relevant in today’s modern recording studios. No "less" important, Les Paul was one of the original developers of the solid-body electric guitar. He was affiliated with the Gibson guitar company for most of his life, where his namesake instrument, The Gibson Les Paul Standard, became one of the best-selling electric guitars of all-time, thanks to the patronage of major rock stars like Eric Clapton.17356 In addition, Paul was a talented and innovative guitarist in ...

We're thrilled to announce Festival 8, a three-day Phish festival which will take place on October 30th, 31st and November 1st at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. With lush green fields and palm trees, and surrounded by vistas of California's majestic Santa Rosa mountains, the festival site is simply breathtaking. And for the first time ever, Phish will combine two of its most cherished traditions - a multi-day camping festival and performing on Halloween - in a glorious three-day celebration. 17356
Keeping the tradition of past Halloween shows, Phish will don a musical costume on Halloween night and cover another band's album. The tradition began on Halloween 1994 with Phish covering The Beatles' The White Album. In subsequent years, they covered The Who's Quadrophenia, Talking Heads' Remain in Light and the V...
Mark Karan and Jemimah Puddleduck must regretfully announce that, due to scheduling problems, John Molo will not be participating in this August’s shows.
Fortunately, the Duck has a considerable flock of friends, and two of them will be dropping in on the upcoming ‘Duck shows: For August 6-7-8 on the East Coast, we’ll welcome the amazing Carlo Nuccio, and for August 14-15 in Denver, the glorious Wally Ingram.17356
Carlo Nuccio has recorded with Tori Amos, Emmylou Harris, and Buckwheat Zydeco, and has played with about every band that ever called New Orleans home. You get rhythm with your birth certificate in N.O., but Carlo got several extra helpings.
Wally Ingram is the ubiquitous percussion accomplice to Sheryl Crow, Eric Burdon, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, David Lindley, Crosby, Stills & Nash – and that’s just the beginning of the list.
These guys are simply superb, and Jemimah Puddleduck is looking forward to our August shows in a big way.<...

Ending a month long European tour in London's Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park, Neil Young encored with 'A Day in a Life'. After performing the first couple of verses alone, Paul McCartney jumped on stage to help sign the song her co-wrote with John Lennon.
After about a minute and a half of intense distortion and nearly ripping apart Old Black, his '53 Les Paul, McCartney returned to the stage to help end the madness.17356
In a message from Donna Jean and the Tricksters, we have found that Jeff Matson (lead guitar/vocals) has unfortunately suffered a collapsed lung and therefor, the band will not be able to play Gratefulfest at Nelson Ledges as scheduled for the July 4th weekend.
Jeff is expected to fully recover very soon and the band will be back to jam soon. Here is the message from the band:17356
The good news is that Jeff Mattson will, in a couple of weeks, be fully recovered and the Donna Jean Godchaux Band with Jeff Mattson will be ready to cruise into a summer of making great music.
The bad news is that yesterday (June 25th) he suffered a partially collapsed lung and had to undergo surgery this morning, which means that he and the band cannot perform at Nelson Ledges this 4th of July weekend.
We want to express our sincere regrets to our good friends at Nelson Ledges and all our fans for having to miss the gig. Man proposes,...

Detroit Lakes, MN (June 18, 2009) – Summer is almost here and this year’s 10,000 Lakes Festival is just over a month away, taking place July 22-25 in Detroit Lakes, MN. Leading up to this year’s event, two of the 10,000 Lakes Festival’s headliners are releasing highly anticipated new albums in June with Dave Matthews Band’s Big Whiskey and The GooGrux King out June 2 on RCA, and WIlco’s Wilco (The Album) out June 29 on Nonesuch.
David Fricke of Rolling Stone lauds Dave Matthews Band’s new albums as “a lot like a New Orleans funeral parade — mourning and zest balled into big, brawny music” and Jim DeRogatis of the Chicago Sun-Times declares Wilco as “one of the most creative forces in rock today, with Tweedy evoking comparisons to greats such as Bob Dylan and Neil Young.” Both albums are available for review upon request. 17356
KindWeb recently chatted with Buddy Cage, longtime pedal steel guitarist of the New Riders of the Purple Sage. The New Riders are currently touring in support of the critically-acclaimed Where I Come From, their first studio album in twenty years.
1. KindWeb would like to congratulate you and the rest of the band on completing the new disc. It’s a fantastic record. There is an obvious high caliber of songwriting throughout Where I Come From. Many of the David Nelson/Robert Hunter collaborations are instant classics. The additional material from other members of the band is also topnotch. What are some of your personal favorites?
Thank you… thanks very much! It’s a blast. It was as much fun to record as ANY one I’ve worked on. I like "Ghost Train Blues," "Barracuda Moon," "Blues Barrel," "Carl Perkins [Wears the Crown]" a lot. I dug what I played… no more than one or two takes.17356
Mark's debut album, Walk Through the Fire, will be released by Quacktone Records and DIG Music on June 30, 2009, and will be available at markkaran.com, in stores nationwide, at digital outlets everywhere (including Itunes, Rhapsody, Napster, and Amazon), at Mark Karan & Jemimah Puddleduck shows, and on RatDog tour. The album features an outstanding cast of musicians, including Delaney Bramlett (in his first posthumous release), The Persuasions, Bill Payne (Little Feat), The Rowan Brothers, Mike Finnigan (CSN, Hendrix), Hutch Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt), Pete Sears (Jefferson Starship, Rod Stewart), Wally Ingram (Sheryl Crow, David Lindley, Stockholm Syndrome), Jimmy Sanchez (Roy Rogers), Jackie LaBranch and Gloria Jones (Jerry Garcia Band), Glen...
This extraordinary, often hilarious, re-enactment of one night in swinging 1967 London is "damn close to being a fly on the wall in a magical era," says Harold Bronson, producer of My Dinner With Jimi, coming to DVD June 23 from Infinity Entertainment Group.
The film follows the band’s British adventure and was written by someone who was actually there, the Turtles’ lead singer Howard Kaylan. In 1967, the Turtles – riding high with their mega-hit "Happy Together" (which replaced The Beatles’ "Penny Lane" at #1 on the Billboard charts and remained there for three weeks) – were flown to England for promotion and wound up hanging out with many of their heroes. 17356
"It’s an absolutely true story," Kaylan recounts. "It was our first trip to London and we met Graham Nash, Donovan, the Rolling Stones’ Brian Jones and the Beatles all on the same night! Nash played us Sergeant. Pepper’s before it was released. I wound up having dinner with...
The kind folks over at the 10,000 Lakes Festival have annouced the stage schedule for this years festival. The line-up is amazing as usual and I'm sure this year will prove to be as stellar as previous years with two nights headlined by Widespread Panic and one night by Dave Matthews Band.
If you are planning on going, you should reserve your camping spots now as it looks like two of the main spots are nearly full.17356
