Del McCoury Band announces release of Del McCoury Band announces release of "Streets of Baltimore
[ Aug 15, 2013 - Share ]

“The picture on the cover, that’s Broadway in Baltimore, maybe back around the time I started playing in the clubs,” Del McCoury says with a smile.  Then he adds, just before breaking into his signature, eyebrow-wiggling laugh, “Back then, you could get anything you needed down there—and a lot of things you didn’t need, too!”

It’s a long way from his apprenticeship in those Baltimore honky tonks in the late 1950s to his stature as the ultimate bluegrass ambassador today, but Del McCoury’s negotiated the path with enough perseverance, humility, good humor, adventurousness—not to mention talent and enthusiasm—to last a lifetime.  Along the way, he’s earned not just the applause, but the passionate devotion of fans ranging from old-timers who remember those early days to country aficionados drawn in by his collaborations with Dierks Bentley, Charlie Daniels and Vince Gill to tie-dye-clad youngster...

The album cover features an MRI scan of Hart’s brain as well as his brain activity, as captured through an EEG cap.  Hart will be performing live with the same EEG cap on his upcoming 70th birthday tour.

“A superorganism is a complex organism composed of many smaller organisms," says Hart as he describes the concept of the album in the liner notes. "A band is a superorganism, so is the universe. For the last few years I have been creating music from the source sounds of the cosmos and now the body. These sounds are noise—harsh, strange—and it is only after dancing with their essence face to face that music can be created."17356

The second-born child of independent music pioneer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Frank Zappa first took the stage with his famous father at the tender age of 12. He was entranced by the elder Zappa’s “control over the music [that] almost seemed like a magic trick.” By the mid-1980s, he was contributing his own riffs to Frank’s albums such as Them or Us and finding an artistic identity of his own as an actor, MTV VJ, and Grammy award-winning musician. For this first family-sanctioned tribute to Frank Zappa, who passed away in 1993, Dweezil and company will take on all tracks from the classic Roxy & Elsewhere to commemorate its 40th anniversary and celebrate the iconoclastic views of an artist whose “eccentric genius was undeniable” (The Rolling Stone Album Guide).

With The Hendrix Electric Ladyland Project, the rock of guitar god Jimi Hendrix makes a rendezvous with jazz in a supercharged showcase of elect...

March 3, 2013:  After several years on hiatus from music, Ed Van Wicklen, Owner and Chief Editor of KindWeb, has released his 2nd full length CD, Till the End

Ed created KindWeb in 1998 during a busy schedule of playing live music.  From 1994 through 2004, Ed was seen playing all over south-central Pennsylvania and Maryland, releasing his first full length CD, Carved in Stone, in 1999.  In 2004, with family and children taking full priority, he decided to take a break from music.  Late last year, Ed decided to close this chapter and finish these songs which were written and partially recorded years ago.

As with Ed’s first CD, Carved in Stone, this CD spans multiple genres.  There is no one writing style that he prefers.  This results in songs spanning genres of rock, blues, funk, groove, jazz, and even some country.
