Concert Review by Didi Trout on 4/15/2010

The Kinetic Playground once again succeeded to spread the cheer with fantastic music bumping the whole night through. Bringing a combination of artists together to diversify the music. Touring together, Big Gigantic and Two Fresh closed out their tour with the Chicago scene. The crowd came out to recognize these up-in coming bands. Both have sincere appreciation for each other, Big G and Two Fresh clearly showed a connection while they were at this venue. Bring life to the KP with electro- infused sounds and added dash of powerful instrumentals, all the bands which appeared on stage set up the evening for those waiting to dance till the break of dawn.

Adding a unique and new sound into the mix, the band Indigo Sun played first. This band has been around since 2008, going through different genres throughout their time playing together and expanding on forms of dance/ jam music. This enables them to have a solid combination of genres in their performance as well as adding an impressive display of artistry to their music. They are a collaboration of reggae, pop, rock with a dash of electronic style, along with the funky sounds to sauce up their music. The band had very terrific stage presence together. On the keyboards, synthesizer and laptop; Kyle Liss pumped out the electronic flare to the music. Along side playing on the guitar and electronic bass, Kevin Florian. Hitting out the drum beats, Steven Florian and Lucus Ellman on sax and using a unique instrument called an electronic wind instrument. A genuine appreciation for spreading the love through their music was shown while they got the crowd moving. It was a great jump-start to the night as the headliners awaited to come out on stage.

Next to hit the spotlight was the South Carolina based trio, The Malah. This band has an excellent collaboration in their music with the use of technology while instrumentally playing to impress. The use of improvisational jams in addition to the mixing of melodies is a delight to witness. They had a high energy presence as each of the members concentrated on flowing the music outward into the audience. Consistency in the music yet perfect dashes of upbeat movements created a dance party in the crowd. The Trio consisting of the members, Brandon Maynard (Guitar/ Synthesizers), Elliot Vaughn (Bass/ Synthesizers) and Seth Fankhauser (Drums/ Percussion). These guys raged the stage as the venue became more and more populated, a breathtaking display prior to the energy erupting next on stage.

Stepping onto the stage, Big Gigantic was welcomed with excitement and eagerness to hear the music behind the new rage hitting the live electronic scene. Coming from playing small gigs in Colorado, to spreading their love around the country, in Chicago on this night the hype surrounding these guys was definitely true as the music began. Adding the presence of instrumentals to the electronic style which comes out creates high visual stimulation that comes with having a live band on stage. Smooth flowing melodies drift form the stage as the combination of saxophone and productions come from Dominic Lalli along with swift percussions from Jeremy Salken. These two created a warped world of rolling sax sounds, infused bass line and dance breaking beats. The guys really brought a high stamina performance to the stage as the crowd raged to the swift melodies beaming into the air. The music was individualistic with the sounds mechanized into creation mixing with pure instrumentals. Catchy melodies roll from the sax while incorporated sleek percussions to the flowing vibrations. Adding a savvy hip hop flare to their music, the spectrum of genres touched by this duo are expanded. Having released several albums, touring spreading positivity through their music and raising the bar for live- electronic bands, Big G is a show not to miss. Ending their winter tour on this evening with another fabulous band, Two Fresh; a collaboration of the two acts was irresistible.

Big G and Two Fresh toured together with perfection. The lively, compassionate music which erupts from the stage as Two Fresh start their set was electrifying. The twins on stage toss the rhythms back and forth with vibrations sent through the crowd. Sherwyn and Kendrick Nicholls have established an upbeat and pronounced way to send out there music, this evening was nothing short for this act. Jazzy tones and funky live beats which cause commotion in the audience for moving your feet is irresistible. As they continued to bust out the rhythm the crowd was stuck on the movement and was this way for the rest of the time Two Fresh populated the stage.

Overall this evening was nothing short for a night at the Kinetic playground. For most people, you want to go out, dance, smile, and have good times; this evening defines this in numerous ways. The music which was drifting out of the venue onto the street and into the Chicago air was splendid and pure. As the night drew to a close and the morning hours were drifting into daylight, the crowd could leave the joint with continuous smiles and a feeling of success for the music which was created was that indeed.
