Concert Review by Didi Trout on 5/18/2011

The beat and bass music of Eoto flew into the city of Chicago for a bumping end of their spring tour. Their spectacular display of vibrating beats illuminated the Portage Theater. Silver Wrapper productions put on this concert of mind blowing proportions. The first night of a two night run in Chicago, the band brought a raging set of beats and a psychedelic light display to enthuse the crowd. Micheal Travis and Jason Hann created another world inside the old movie theater. An annual scene at this theater with Eoto making a killer display at a top notch place to perform with the vintage vibe combined with a raging scene. The music began with a bang and left the crowd on edge for the entire performance.

To jump start the show they came out to a introduction of a rumbling bass and a trippy visualizer background reading "EOTO" in pink and purple swirling letters, whispers of distorted voices speaking "Eoto" were filling the area, Travis and Hann walked out on stage with huge smiles and waves as they took to their spots. In front of the variety of instruments, mixers, mics and interesting additions. The bass vibrated the entire theater as the lights streamed in the background filling in the huge movie theater projection screen. Beginning with a spacey movement of enthused dub and insane visuals the progression of the set began to move more rapidly. A passion for the style of music created was felt with every amp of sound that came from the stage. With the two members of the band raging the stage as they seize to whip across their instrument setups with ease. Micheal Travis stands behind the keyboard and mixers controlling computerized programs sending the sounds that are created into a mixture of more collective house and dub with dashes of other musical genres which is great, because it shows how much experimentation they bring to the table, as they are regularly more of a dub-step band. Jason Hann with such positive emotion in every flick of the wrist on the drums, all night he was adding vocally distorted sounds and auto tuners infused with lyrics made up on the spot that greatly added to the feel of the music generating that night which was that of House Music genre, of course they dropped the Dub-step in, here and there thru the night, but it was not dominant. The intense lights and visuals added to the vibrant sounds, aliens landing on the backdrop, UFO's and Giant Robots invading the theater, abducting the audience into a new world of sound created by Travis and Hann. Drastic tempo changes and sharp tones intermixing meshed in the music on the spot. Time flew as set break came on and attendees were hung up on the visuals and melodies that combined to move the crowd. With gripping music and beats, every minute felt like multiple.

One of the most impressive draws about Eoto is their ability to transform one tone and tempo to each other so fluently. Their style broke out as the second set kicked off. With a notably higher intensity, the spaced out rhythms of the musical creations kept the audience rolling through the evening. Eoto knows how to keep the crowd moving with a improvised wave of beats and wobbling bass that keeps you guessing for what sound is to come out next. Throughout the whole show the visuals gripped you to the beats as your mind spun into the music. Eoto generates music that creates great time and environment to be in, the vibes that the two performers set off with the beats is the most positive aspect besides the impressive instrumental and mixing talent of both musicians. The first night seemed to pass by teasing the audience for more. As the second set dwindled into an encore the duo seemed to want the itch for EOTO to thrive as they completed the night with an insane cliff hanger and spaced out climax mixed with spacy guitar riffs and glitched out sounds.

Shifting vibrations of dance music moved and thrilled the whole audience for the entire three hour performance. The city seemed more alive when the crowd drifted away from the first night of the dance sensation melodies. With another night to look forward to the party had just begun as Eoto's late night following continued to rage in the windy city.
