|Larry Keel & Natural Bridge - Classic
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to listen to Larry Keel's new cd "Classic". In addition to his work with Natural Bridge, Larry regularly collaborates with some names you may know, like Yonder Mountain String Band, Keller Williams, Jorma Kaukonen, String Cheese Incident and Leftover Salmon, amongst others. If you are wondering who is in the band, it is comprised of Larry Keel & Natural Bridge is Larry Keel (guitar), Jenny Keel (bass), Mark Schimick (mandolin) and Will Lee (banjo).
The tunings of the instruments and classic perfection can be noted throughout the musical exchanges during this 13 song- album. Musically, the blend with Larry and his wife Jenny shows a special bond that can be heard throughout the album. Combined with the collaborations of the mandolin and the banjo, this album is a flat-pickers dream come true!
"Love" opens up the album and has bouncy lyrics and reminds me of some serious Jamgrass. The songs are energizing and sincere with hints of soulful twists, like Bob Marley's "Put it On" being one that especially surprised me in a good way. The result is that every member in this band has a distinct position in the band and the flow of the album delivers a rich undertone of all these pickers. The beatings on these instruments promises to satisfy anyone who likes music with strong balanced sounds and the New Mountain Music that surely would bring smiles to any true bluegrass fan.
