Concert Review by Bill Grenfell on 2/25/2014

Roughly two thirds through his massive "What the Funk" Tour, Keller Williams dropped in on the fine folks of Lincoln, NE. for a Sunday night show at The Bourbon Theatre.  Opening act for the night was John Wayne and the Pain, a Minneapolis based raggae/rock band.  A welcomed treat of their set was a guest appearance from Keller for a take on the good old Grateful Dead's "Wharf Rat"!

Things have come a long way from the old time one man band.  The first notes of Keller's solo set filled the air before we even got a glimpse of the man.  Whether playing with The Keel's, The Traveling McCoury's or all by his lonesome, one thing is for sure; Keller will be having fun!  After forty minutes or so of eccentric guitar and looping techniques, Keller eased his "More than a Little" band onto the stage.  Tony Fairchild on drums, E.J. Shaw on bass and Gerard Johnson on keys got the funk groove going while Keller slipped into his formal wear and returned to the stage with his bombshell back-ups Tonya Lazenby and Sugah Davis.  "Love Handles" and "Doobie in My Pocket" lead into a funked up version of "Cadillac" that got the Sunday night crowd into a Saturday night groove.  Stellar versions of "Right Here", "I Feel Love", Hey Ho Jorge" along with a cover of Tom Petty's "Mary Jane's Last Dance" rounded out a great night of music.  When all was said and done one negative thing did loom large; it was almost Monday!
