Concert Review by Rich Denis on 10/17/2014

Austin loves their Panic!  This week Widespread Panic fans were treated to another 2 night run at ACL-Live Moody Theatre and both the band and the fans came ready to get down.  With Todd Nance out for the fall tour, the boys were joined by Duane Trucks on the drums and he made himself right at home.   On night one, after a slightly late start, with a, “Hello Austin, Texas!” from JB and a roar from the crowd, the show got under way with Greta up first then right into Weight of the World.  They let off the pedal just slightly when they got to C. Brown, but slammed it back down right after when Dave took over for Sleeping Man and through the rest of the set finally ending the set with Makes Sense To Me!  The crowd seemed stunned by the musical magic they had just witnessed, taking just a bit to get moving to the bar and outside during the break.

They opened the second set right where they left off with the first set delivering a high energy performance of One Arm Steve. Good People, Love Tractor, Drums and wrapped up the set with Dear Mr. Fantasy to roaring cheers from the crowd.  While coming out for an encore, JB recognized the crowd for their “spunk” especially after two weeks of festivaling, referring to the two weekends of ACL that had just ended 2 days prior to their show. They band went on to play Old Joe and then left it all on stage for Shape I’m In.  The show was over but the buzz was not.  Willie Nelson Blvd. was buzzing with the leftover energy from the show.  A great opening night indeed.
