Massena, NY (September 9, 2009) Native Folk Singer-Songwriter Atsiaktonkie (ah-jeeak-doon-gee-ay) and his current CD Four Wolves Prophecy (Strong Wind Records) has just been nominated for Best Folk Recording at the 11th Annual Native American Music Awards (NAMA) by The Native American Music Association & Awards, reflecting the combined votes of the NAMA Advisory Board Nominating Committee.

Public voting is used to determine the winner of each category and is now open to the general public. Anyone interested in voting can visit the Awards website at www.nativeamericanmusicawards.com. Music from all nominees is currently featured on the audio players on the website. To vote for Atsiaktonkie, click on NAMA 11 Voting. Then register to vote. Next click NAMA 11 voting again and scroll down to Public Voters Please Click Here. Atsiaktonkie is listed on the ballot in Category No. 9 for Best Folk Recording.

The 11th Annual Native American Music Awards, hosted by Gil Birmingham (Twilight), will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Seneca Entertainment Center in the Seneca Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls, New York. This year's Hall of Fame induction will be held for the late Ritchie Valens. Special recognition will also be given to guitarist /musician/producer Stevie Salas as this year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Tickets are on-sale now through all Ticketmaster outlets.

J Poet from Native Peoples Magazine says the album retains his (Atsiaktonkie's) blend of Native, folk, and rock with a low key, mostly acoustic production that makes the tunes sound like they were captured in a comfortable living room in the presence of close friends. Jud Conway from Kindweb says, Atsiaktonkie's blend of strong musicianship, pointed lyrics, and crisp production has not been lost on his musical peers. While Mark Bialczak from The (Syracuse) Post Standard says Atsiakotnkie sings from the heart about what he sees in Mohawk Territory, near Massena.

Atsiaktonkie's Four Wolves Prophecy CD can be purchased locally on the at CKON Radio, The Bear's Den, Nation Bookstore, Wild Bill's, #9 Truckstop, Kanienkehaka Fuels, and at www.atsiaktonkie.com. Half of the proceeds from all CD sales will benefit the Akwesasne Freedom School, which without funding could result in the Mohawk language and culture diminishing completely.
