Discovery Bay Games Launches Grateful Dead-Opoly Board Game

SEATTLE (November 10, 2009) – Discovery Bay Games today announced the release of Grateful Dead-Opoly, available in stores and online in time for the 2009 Holiday shopping season. The board game was created by music industry veteran and longtime Grateful Dead associate Debbie Gold, with artwork by comic book illustrator Timothy Truman. Bob Weir, founding member of the Grateful Dead, and legendary roadie Steve Parish also contributed to the development of Grateful Dead-Opoly. Truman's breathtaking artwork brings the game alive with the distinctive look and spirit of classic Dead album and poster art.

"Whether you play with friends or just collect the artwork, this is a fun, absolutely authentic rock n' roll experience," said Debbie Gold. "You don't need to be a Dead Head to enjoy Grateful Dead-Opoly. But if you're a Dead Head or if you know one, you definitely need to have this game."

Game play is like touring with the band. Each game comes with a VIP Pass and tokens that include a guitar, drum, amp, a tour bus and even Bob Weir’s dog, Otis. Players circle the board, attempting to acquire album-themed properties. Along the way, they might catch a show at Winterland, hang in the Parking Lot or even get thrown Off the Bus.

From the artwork to the wording on the cards, Dead fans will appreciate the attention to detail that went into every aspect of the game. And judging from reactions to prototypes, Discovery Bay expects this to be one of the hot must-have gifts for the holiday season.

"In an age where everything is online and plugged in, board games are becoming ever more popular, allowing friends and family an enjoyable, affordable way to relax at home," said Craig Olson, CEO of Discovery Bay Games. "A one-of-a-kind game like this with a huge, devoted fan base should be a big seller."

Grateful Dead-opoly™ (2-6 players, ages 8+) is now available for $34.95 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers nationwide and online at Barnes & Noble.com (www.bn.com).
