Dumpstaphunk came out to Stubb’s Austin Sunday night with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue for the last stop of their 3 night Texas run; having played in Dallas and Houston the nights before at the House of Blues.  You could tell from the first notes Nick played on his bass guitar at sound check that it was going to be a Phunky night.  When show time came, they did not disappoint!

Kicking off the set with a track from their new album Dirty Word, Blueswave was a great choice and really let Tony show off that phunky style.  From there they rolled right into their cover of Betty Davis’ “If I’m In Luck I Just Might Get Picked Up” letting Nikki shine on the drums and the mic.  The set continued on one funky song after another.  Then they brought out Grooveline Horns to jam with them on their cover of Water; Grooveline Horns is actually featured on the album’s track.  A treat to see them live.  Dumpstaphunk wrapped up their whirlwind of a set with Meanwhile and I was left wanting some more of that Nola funk.  Lucky for me Trombone Shorty was yet to come.
